The Washington Post reports that the Dubai government has been seeding clouds to generate rain.

Since the beginning of 2021, the state's National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has conducted 126 cloud seeding operations using drones developed by the University of Reading, in conjunction with the University of Bath.

Given the arid nature of the region, the programme has largely received a positive response by Dubai citizens.

However, it has also raised concerns about the direct and indirect impacts of the programme, including dangerous flooding, 'rain stealing' and other weaponisations of the technology, and their potential geo-political ramifications.
