Facebook algorithm change drives 'social-civil war' in Poland

Documents shared with Congress and journalists by Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen show an employee felt Facebook’s algorithm change in 2018 was responsible for a 'social-civil war' in Poland.

Arguing that Facebook's decision 'changed the nature of politics' in a number of European countries, the employee highlighted how a number of political parties attributed their political success to the new algorithm's propensity to reward 'provocation strategies' for subjects such as immigration.
