Facebook has been running XCheck, a system that exempts almost 6 million 'VIP' users from many of its rules, according to a Wall Street Journal investigation.
People added to the XCheck list, such as Donald Trump, Elizabeth Warren and Neymar, are permitted to post rule-breaking content, including harassment, incitement to violence, and misinformation and disinformation, and are made immune from Facebook enforcement actions.
A confidential internal review discovered by the Journal says 'We are not actually doing what we say we do publicly', and goes on call XCheck 'a breach of trust'.
Facebook’s oversight board has opened an official review of Facebook's XCheck system.
