Uber Real-time ID Check racial bias

October 2021

Uber drivers in the UK, in conjunction with the App Drivers & Couriers Union (ADCU), are taking the rail hide company to court for misidentifying a number of them, leading to the loss of their licenses and contracts.

ADCU claims Uber's Real-time ID Check facial recognition system, supplied by Microsoft, is 'inherently faulty and generate(s) particularly poor accuracy results when used with people of colour.'

ADCU is crowdfunding the legal action.
