Adobe Firefly image generator

Firefly is a generative machine learning model developed and operated by Adobe. 

Firefly was built on Adobe's Sensei AI platform and was trained with images and videos in Adobe's royalty-free Stock platform and public domain images from Creative Commons, Wikimedia, Flickr Commons, and other generative AI systems.

Firefly was launched as a beta in March 2023 and fully released in June 2023. 

Adobe is in the process of integrating Firefly with a number of its products, including Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Express.

Risks and harms 🛑

Firefly has received criticism for potential copyright violations and inadequate and 'woke' use restrictions resulting in its inappropriate use as well as accusations of censorship. 

Adobe has also come under fire for making apparently misleading marketing claims, and for its potential impact on jobs, especially those of emerging artists and designers.

Here are the key transparency and accountability limitations of Adobe Firefly:

• Black box system. Adobe has not released the full technical details or code of Firefly's underlying AI models.

• Training data ambiguity. While Adobe states Firefly is trained on licensed and public domain content, the exact composition of the training dataset is not publicly disclosed.

• Limited explainability.
