An Israeli settler group posted an inflammatory AI-generated video showing the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem burning to the ground, prompting widespread comdemnation.
Published by the "Temple Mount Activists", the video shows the Dome of the Rock and its surroundings engulfed in flames, with a caption reading "absolute victory" and "Coming soon in these days".
The AI video sparked outrage and concern among social media users, who view it as an "alarm bell" and a dangerous precedent.ย
Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, the preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, has called for mobilisation at the holy site, warning that the video confirms the goals and plans of far-right extremist groups aiming to destroy the mosque and take full control over it.
Hamas also warned of "grave consequences" following the release of the video.
The AI-generated video comes after the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, previously announced his intention to build a Jewish synagogue inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
