Tesla Cybertruck attempts to turn into oncoming SUV

Occurred: February 2025

A Tesla Cybertruck using Full Self-Driving (FSD) software nearly caused a head-on collision with an oncoming SUV on a country road, prompting concerns about the technology.

What happened

A video shows a Cybertruck driving straight when it suddenly attempts to turn left into what appears to be a driveway, directly into the path of an approaching vehicle.

The Tesla driver had to quickly intervene, exclaiming "Oh god, Jesus!" while yanking the steering yoke to avoid a frontal collision.

Why it happened

The Cybertruck's dashboard display showed that the FSD software had detected the oncoming vehicle but still intended to cross into the other lane.

The near-miss occurred just days after another widely reported incident where a Cybertruck crashed into a pole while using FSD.

What it means

The incident raises serious concerns about the safety and reliability of Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology, demonstrating that it can make potentially dangerous decisions, even when other vehicles are clearly visible.

It also casts doubt on Tesla's plans to introduce unsupervised self-driving capabilities and a robotaxi service in the near future.
