Amazon's virtual assistant Alexa faced controversy over apparent bias in its responses to questions about US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

When asked why someone should vote for Kamala Harris, Alexa reportedly provided positive responses highlighting Harris's qualifications and accomplishments. 

However, when asked the same question about Donald Trump, Alexa responded that it could not provide content supporting specific candidates or parties.

Amazon addressed the issue, stating that the discrepancy in responses was due to an "error" that had been fixed. The company emphasised that Alexa does not hold political opinions and that they have systems in place to prevent such errors in the future.

The incident sparked outrage among conservatives and Trump supporters, who accused Amazon of election interference and political bias. Some social media users shared videos demonstrating the contrasting responses, leading to widespread criticism of Amazon.

This controversy highlights ongoing concerns about potential political bias in AI and technology platforms. It also underscores the challenges tech companies face in maintaining neutrality, especially as they develop more advanced AI capabilities.

While Amazon denied intentional bias, the incident has reignited debates about the influence of big tech companies on public opinion and electoral processes.
