Tesla catches fire after multi-car crash, kills passenger

A Tesla crashed into two other cars in Garden Grove, Los Angeles, killing the passenger and critically injuring the driver and the driver of one of the other cars. Debris was said to have landed up to 300 feet from the point of impact, indicating that one or more of the cars had been traveling at high speed.

The Garden Grove Police Department (GGPD) said it thought the Tesla driver was intoxicated and speeding, but have yet to complete their investigation. It remains unclear whether Autopilot was engaged at the time of the incident.

The GGPD said it would be pursuing driving under the influence (DUI) and vehicular manslaughter charges.
