Over 20,000 fully AI-generated tracks are uploaded to music streaming platform Deezer every day, raising concerns about copyright infringement, fair compensation for artists, and the actual and potential marginalisation of human creators.
Deezer reported that the proportion of fully AI-generated songs uploaded daily has surged to 18 percent, with more than 20,000 such tracks added each day - almost double the figure from the start of 2025.
The company attributed the rapid increase to the widespread use of generative AI tools like Suno and Udio, which can create music without any human input.
The influx of AI-generated content raises significant concerns about copyright infringement, fair compensation for artists, and the potential marginalization of human creators, as these AI models are often trained on copyrighted works without permission or payment.
The surge in AI-generated uploads is driven by the accessibility and advancement of generative AI music tools, which allow anyone to produce and upload music without traditional barriers such as musical skill or industry connections.
Like many streaming platforms, Deezer enables independent uploads, which has facilitated this trend.
In response, Deezer introduced an AI detection tool in January 2025 to identify and label fully AI-generated tracks, filtering them out of algorithmic recommendations and curated playlists, though not removing them entirely from the platform.
The explosion of AI-generated music threatens the visibility and actual and potential revenue of human artists and songwriters.
The music industry faces mounting legal challenges, with major labels suing AI music startups for copyright infringement, highlighting unresolved questions about the legality and ethics of training AI on copyrighted material.
For listeners, the growing presence of AI music may affect the authenticity and diversity of content available, while society at large confronts broader debates about the role of AI in creative industries, intellectual property rights, and the future of artistic labour.
