Facial recognition search engine PimEyes can identify people even when they are wearing sunglasses or hats, raising privacy concerns.
After submitting photos of the faces of a dozen Times employees to the site and checking a terms of service agreement, New York Times reporter Kashmir Hill said PimEyes found photos of every person, some that the journalists had never seen before, even when they were wearing sunglasses or a mask, or their face was turned away from the camera.
The findings raised significant privacy concerns, with the ability to easily identify individuals from partially obscured images seen to have potentially far-reaching consequences for personal privacy and anonymity in public spaces.
