TikTok accused of 'censoring' #intersex hashtag

TikTok sparked outrage for appearing to censor the #intersex hashtag on its platform after users spotted the tag pulled up a 'null' page.

According toThe Verge, TikTok does not list banned words and phrases in its community guidelines, and did not make a public statement about the removal, leaving users to speculate whether they were being censored.

TikTok later claimed the tag had been removed by mistake.

The episode raised questions about the Chinese company's apparent willingness to censor LGBTQ+ content across the world.
