Google Bard lets users generate phishing emails, ransomware

Occurred: July 2023

Google's AI chatbot Bard has significantly weaker cybersecurity protections than OpenAI's ChatGPT, making it easier to generate malicious content, according to research.

Check Point software researchers used Bard to create phishing emails, malware keyloggers and basic ransomware code with little effort.

They also noted that Bard's anti-abuse restrictions in cybersecurity areas are significantly lower than ChatGPT's, making it much easier to generate potentially harmful content, and concluded that Google had not fully implemented the necessary security boundaries and limitations that ChatGPT had developed over time.

This research highlighted potential security risks associated with Bard and other generative AI platforms, and underscored the need for strong safeguards to prevent their misuse for malicious purposes.
