Deepfake President Zelenskyy instructs Ukraine army to surrender

A deepfake video circulated online allegedly showing Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructing his army to lay down their arms and surrender.
According to disinformation experts the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, the video was first aired on hacked news programme Ukraine 24.
Ukraine 24 quickly posted a warning on Facebook that it had been hacked and that the video was fake.
Facebook later removed it from its platform for violating its policy against misleading manipulated media.
In a response to the deepfake video posted to Facebook, Zelenksy called publicly for Russians troops to surrender.

Deepfakes (a portmanteau of 'deep learning' and 'fake') are images, videos, or audio which are edited or generated using artificial intelligence tools, and which may depict real or non-existent people. They are a type of synthetic media.
