Elon Musk's Grok AI chatbot generated and promoted a false news story claiming that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been "ejected from Indian Government".

The bot generated a headline that read "PM Modi Ejected from Indian Government" and claimed it was a "shocking turn of events" representing a "significant change in India's political landscape". The false information appeared as a promoted news article in users' feeds on X (formerly Twitter).

The claim was false, as the Indian general election had yet to take place - it happened several weeks later, from April 19 to June 1, 2024.

The false story sparked criticism, with some users calling it "crass and sheer election manipulation".
